Amanda Seyfried was spotted for the first time on the set of the Hulu series “The Dropout,” in which she plays tech darling-turned-pariah Elizabeth Holmes. Seyfried, 35, was seen wearing a black turtleneck, loose-fitting navy pants, black socks, sandals and shades while on set Monday. She later traded in the turtleneck for a pink T-shirt while appearing to eat lunch on the go. She was photographed with several crew members as well as her beloved dog, Finn, who is often spotted out and about with the Oscar-nominated actress. Seyfried signed up for the role of Holmes shortly after “Saturday Night Live” star Kate McKinnon backed out of the project in February, Variety reported. The US Securities and Exchange Commission charged Stanford dropout Holmes, 37, with “massive fraud” in March 2018, alleging she had defrauded investors of more than $700 million through false claims made through her medical testing start-up, Theranos. Deemed by many as a Steve Jobs wannabe who dressed exclusively in black turtlenecks, Holmes and the blood testing company’s former president, Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani, were indicted by a federal grand jury in California in June 2018 on nine counts of wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. Holmes’ trial is slated to start later this month after her attorneys requested a delay due to her pregnancy. Once the world’s youngest female self-made billionaire, Holmes’ now-defunct company — which falsely claimed it had developed technology to perform rapid medical tests using minuscule amounts of blood — was valued at $9 billion at one point. Seyfried also serves as a producer on “The Dropout,” which is based on journalist Rebecca Jarvis’ podcast of the same name.
