Although HEPA filters were invented in the 1950s, devices that used them have seen an explosion in popularity in recent years. In response, the market has been filled with thousands of products that claim to use HEPA filters without the factory testing to back it up. In a new online resource, air filtration professionals from Camfil USA explain how HEPA filters work and how to determine which air purifiers and other products actually deliver HEPA-level filtration.
“Many so-called HEPA air filters on the market may not actually provide this level of protection or anything close to it because there is no evidence the filter achieves HEPA-level performance,” said Mark Davidson, Manager of Marketing and Technical Materials at Camfil USA. “As a result, many air cleaners and air purifiers that advertise HEPA filters are actually not offering the protection from airborne viruses that consumers paid for when they purchased those devices.”
