Garland ISD students will return to campus on Monday, August 2 for in-person classes.
There will be no virtual school this year as the option was not are not approved, accredited or funded by the state.
Here’s what the district is doing for COVID-19 protocols.
Masks, plexiglass
- Using face masks is “highly encouraged,” but the district is unable to mandate mask-wearing per Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s Executive Order from May.
- Temperature screenings and Plexiglas dividers are no longer required. Upon parent’s request, plexiglas in the cafeteria will be available for students.
- The district will provide student and staff face shields, if requested.
Sanitizing
- Playgrounds will be fully accessible to all students during recess. Hand sanitizer will be used during exit and entry.
- The district is providing hand sanitizer dispensers in buildings and classrooms. The district is also encouraging frequent hand washing.
- The district will continue to spray antimicrobial mist at district facilities.
COVID-19 tracking, testing and quarantining
- The district will update its online COVID-19 tracker daily.
- Confirmed COVID-19 cases will be sent in a once weekly letter to parents.
- Free COVID-19 rapid testing will be available for symptomatic students and those exposed on campus.
- Staff and parents will be asked to self-screen students for COVID-19 symptoms.
- People fully vaccinated for COVID-19 will not have to quarantine if they are exposed to the virus.
