The New England Patriots starting quarterback battle is over.

Newton, 32, urged fans to not feel sorry for him following his lone season with the Patriots.
“I really appreciate all the love and support during this time but I must say … please don’t feel sorry for me!” he wrote on Instagram.

Newton finished with 2,657 yards with eight passing touchdowns through the air and rushed for 592 yards and 12 touchdowns last season. The Patriots failed to make the playoffs but brought back Newton and gave him a full offseason with the team.
It’s unclear what’s next for Newton at this stage in his career. He’s definitely valuable enough to be on a team’s roster, but barring a significant injury to a starter, he’ll have to settle for a backup role for the first time in his career.
