An Ottawa County man has been taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after crashing a dirtbike into a cornfield Sunday mo, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office. Just before 2 a.m. Sunday, deputies received a call to respond to the scene of a personal injury. The Sheriff's Office determined that the injured unidentified 48-year-old man was heading north on 8th Avenue on a dirt bike and failed to stop at the stop sign at Wilson Street. He then collided with a street sign and crashed into a cornfield. The man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, but his dirt bike was not street legal and didn't have proper safety equipment, like head and tail lights. He was transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital by Rockford Ambulance for his injuries and cited for several traffic violations. Deputies say alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor in the crash. In addition to the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, the Wright / Tallmadge Township Fire Department, Chester Township Fire Department and Rockford Ambulance assisted at the scene.
