Authorities identify Lyft driver killed in Garland before gunman shot at Plano police headquarters - The Dallas Morning News

Authorities have identified a Lyft driver who was killed Sunday afternoon in Garland, shortly before a masked gunman was shot at Plano police headquarters.

The driver, Isabella Lewis, 26, was fatally shot after she dropped off or picked up someone who had requested a ride, according to authorities and the Dallas County medical examiner’s office. Public records show Lewis was a Garland resident.

Garland police had responded to the shooting in the 400 block of Forest Gate Drive, near Forest Lane and Shiloh Road, where Lewis’ car was reported stolen.

The vehicle was found at the police headquarters, about 7.5 miles away in the 900 block of 14th Street, after man wearing a mask entered the building and fired a handgun.

Police shot and wounded the man about 12:15 p.m. Details about his condition have not been released, and he has not been publicly identified.

Garland police spokesman Matthew Pesta said Sunday that he could not confirm the gunman was a suspect in the woman’s death, but he said authorities were working to find a link between the two cases.

Plano and Garland police said Monday that they did not have more information to provide to explain the gunman’s motive or what his connection to the Lyft driver’s death might have been.

Anyone with information about the investigation may call Garland police at 972-485-4840.
