The face covering requirement began Monday, Aug. 30, in all school district facilities.
Face coverings are now required for all those who enter Brainerd Public Schools facilities.
The district issued a reminder of the mandate Monday, Aug. 30, while also noting those who do not comply will not be allowed in district facilities.
“Brainerd Public Schools is aware of misinformation circulating on social media claiming that parents, guardians and students have a general right under federal law to refuse to comply with the District’s face covering requirement. As per district legal counsel, there is no such right under the law,” the statement said.
“Brainerd Public Schools is also aware of an effort on social media to organize a concerted refusal to comply with the District’s face covering requirement during open house events and back-to-school. Individuals who do not comply with the District’s face covering requirement will be asked to leave the facility. The District’s face covering requirement will be reviewed and may result in disciplinary action. Continued failure to comply will be considered trespassing.”
The district will work with those who qualify for a medical or behavioral exemption from the requirement.
“Brainerd Public Schools thanks the many families who have complied with and supported the District’s COVID-19 mitigation efforts during these challenging times,” the statement said.
