CarMax is parking a new technology effort in the Dallas region.
The company narrowed its choice to North Texas after considering locales such as Boston and Silicon Valley for the new center.
"The biggest thing I would say is the growing technology scene - a lot of technology resources are moving to Dallas," said Mohammad, who noted he formerly lived in North Texas. "We're still going to recruit here, but Dallas is going to be a strong focus for us."
North Texas was an area of investment for CarMax after it started more than 25 years ago. While the company may be known for its retail sites, it is in a multi-year effort to bolster its technology offerings. Changes around COVID-19 made new options more important in many industries. "A lot of customers want that. But ultimately, it's giving customers the options to be able to shop anywhere they want, and the technology plays a big part in all of this."
The new hub comes as the company sees momentum with its business as shortages have driven up demand in the industry.
