INTERVIEW: Superhost Creator Discusses Social Media | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources

Written and directed by Brandon Christensen (Z), Superhost is a blood-filled slasher that also comedically asks audiences to pinpoint the bigger sociopath: the actual mass-murderer Rebecca, who's exhausted by social media, or the travel vloggers who live in the pursuit of generating "likes," even if their behavior hurts others and their relationships.

Debuting on Shudder on Sept. 2, Superhost centers its film on two YouTubers, who are also dating and facing their own personal nightmare: a dwindling follower count. In efforts to put their channel back on the streaming map, Claire (Sara Canning) and Teddy (Osric Chau) bring their Superhost show to Rebecca's (Gracie Gillam) raved-reviewed getaway in the mountains -- but Rebecca has something more nefarious in mind for her shallow streaming guests.

In an exclusive interview with CBR, Christensen broke down the film's clever use of multiple filming approaches, bringing Rebecca's wild mania to life on-screen and what he hopes audiences will take away from Superhost's commentary on social media.

CBR: Superhost centers around a travel vlogging couple, and what I thought was really interesting about it was that it starts off with them in their travel vlogging personas before we actually see who they are in real life. Why did you choose to start it that way?
