21-year old convicted for Christmas eve murder | Loop Cayman Islands - Loop News Cayman

Yesterday, Thursday September 2, 21 year old Jashawn Johnson of George Town was convicted of the murder of 22 year old Michael Aaron Bush of West Bay.

The murder took place during the early hours of Christmas eve, December 24, outside the clubs of the Strand on West Bay Road. Bush was found bleeding and unresponsive in the Strand parking lot after sustaining multiple stab wounds. He was pronounced dead just after 4:45am after being transported via ambulance to the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment.

On December 26, Johnson surrendered to the Cayman Islands Detention Centre and was charged with Murder.

Johnson will be sentenced November 2021.

“We thank the witnesses that came forward and gave evidence which played a vital role in achieving this outcome”, says Superintendent Peter Lansdown.

“Although the police are satisfied with the court result, it doesn’t take away from the fact that a young man has lost his life and yet another family from our community has lost their son, due to a few seconds of madness with a weapon”.

Police remind the public that it is illegal to carry an offensive weapon. In the heat of the moment situations can escalate quickly and bad decisions can be made resulting in often life changing injuries or in the worst cases, fatalities, as is demonstrated in this case.
