In other local military contracting news, the Future Hypersonics program at Eglin on Wednesday awarded multimillion-dollar modifications to existing contracts with two aerospace and defense contractors for ongoing development of hypersonic weapons, according to contract award announcements from the Department of Defense.
Both one-year contract modifications awarded Monday - one to the St. Louis, Missouri-based Boeing Company, and the other to Lockheed Martin in Palmdale, California - call for the maturation of "a solid-rocket boosted, air-breathing, hypersonic conventional cruise missile, air-launched from existing fighter/bomber aircraft, through the completion of a preliminary design review."
The Boeing contract modification is for nearly $39.7 million while the Lockheed Martin contract modification award is for $27.1 million. Some of the work under that contract will be done at Tyndall Air Force Base near Panama City, according to a DoD contract award announcement.
Also Tuesday, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Eglin awarded a $10.9 million one-year modification to an existing contract with Lockheed Martin in Orlando for tooling, maintenance and training work on some air-to-surface missiles.
Under a $77.1 million contract award announced Aug. 27 through the Air Dominance Division Contracting Office at Eglin, Raytheon Missiles and Defense in Tucson, Arizona, will do work on air-to-air training missiles and guidance systems for those missiles. The work is expected to be completed by April 30, 2024.
Also recently, an Aug. 23 DoD contract announcement noted that 7% of the work anticipated under a $23.4 million contract awarded Aug. 23 to L-3 Mustang Technology L.P., in Plano, Texas, will be done in Niceville. The work involves low-cost guided "Smart" ammunition for use by the U.S. Navy.
Additionally on Aug. 23, the DoD announced a five-year contract award not to exceed $45 million to CC Distributors Inc. of Corpus Christi, Texas, for a simplified method for civil engineering personnel at Eglin to purchase materials, tools and equipment used for construction, recurring preventive maintenance, repairs and other construction work at the installation.
