The Department of Education Services (DES) has expressed its concern regarding an incident involving students and staff of the Clifton Hunter High School which occurred on Thursday (September 2) in the afternoon.
Shortly before 3:30pm on Thursday, September 2, officers responded to a report that a school bus had returned to the school due to an altercation involving a student and a bus warden.
When the bus arrived at the school, a member of staff entered and attempted to speak to the student involved. The student is said to have assaulted the staff member, striking her multiple times and returning to the back of the bus.
While officers were at the location conducting inquiries, a family member of the student arrived and reportedly began behaving in an aggressive and threatening manner, making serious threats towards the staff members and officers present.
She then left the location with the student.
The member of staff who was assaulted attended the Cayman Islands Hospital for treatment for what appear to be minor injuries, and was subsequently discharged.
The matter is currently under investigation and police are supporting school staff and other relevant agencies in their response.
