Larry remains a dangerous category three hurricane | Loop Cayman Islands - Loop News Cayman

The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) said Hurricane Larry will cause dangerous surf and rip currents in the western Atlantic Ocean later this week.

Larry is holding on to its category three hurricane strength as it churns away in the open Atlantic Ocean.

There are no coast warnings in effect for Larry.

In the 11 am update, NHC said Larry had maximum sustained winds that are near 125 mph (205 km/h) with higher gusts.

The hurricane is expected to strengthen a little and NHC has forecast Larry will remain a major hurricane until mid-week.

Larry is located about 880 miles (1,415 km) east of the Northern Leeward Islands and about 1,285 miles (2,070 km) south-east of Bermuda.
