Facebook agrees social media provider deal for 2023 Rugby World Cup - SportsPro Media

  • Facebook to host ‘two years to go’ live stream on 8th September
  • Social media platform to also provide training for young apprentices in France

Social media giant Facebook has been named as the official social media provider for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.

This is the first time that rugby union’s top international tournament has had a social media provider, with the initiative designed to raise the global profile of the sport.

To mark the start of the partnership, Facebook is hosting a ‘two years to go’ live stream for the tournament on September 8th. The show will feature special guests, and offer fans a behind-the-scenes look into the preparations for the tournament in some of its host cities.

Up to and during the 2023 Rugby World Cup, Facebook will rollout a number of online activations, including augmented reality (AR) photo filters, as well as digital ‘live’ events and other content.

The tournament organisers’ Campus 23 apprenticeship initiative has also been woven into the deal, with Facebook to offer free digital training for 3000 young people in France who aspire to work in the sports industry.
