Schools respond to COVID in the community | Loop Cayman Islands - Loop News Cayman

Premier Wayne Panton advised the public at a press briefing on September 10 that Minister of Education, Juliana O’Connor Connoly would attend a press briefing next week to outline the COVID protocols for the country’s schools. In the meantime, several local schools have already implemented COVID measures.

Private Schools

As schools await the directive from the Ministry of Education, several have already begun to implement some measures of their own.

At Triple C school, for example, class rooms are being sanitized and children and staff began receiving temperature checks on Friday. The school will be sharing its COVID-19 policies with parents on Monday. Many children are already wearing masks to school.

St Ignatius school shared its COVID-19 policies with parents on the school’s communication platform, in advance of a Friday afternoon meeting with staff to determine what measures would be implemented in the coming days. A bulletin went out to parents on Friday, indicating that social distancing and hand sanitizing measures would be put into place. The school has indicated that until it receives any directives to the contrary, mask wearing will be optional.

Cayman International School has not yet released official measures, but has stated that “The school will monitor government mandates with respect to protocols. Changes will be as per the guidance from the Ministry of Education, the Public Health Department and Chief Medical Officer as well as WHO and CDC - as such...
