Meal Vouchers for Children in Need
Our first effort to help the community was during the early stages of Covid in the first half of 2020, said Attorney Scott McPherson. McPherson went on to state that his first concern was for children who relied on school lunches during the lock down, but there was also a great deal of concern that all of the new restaurants in New Port Richey would have difficulty surviving. So, an idea came about that we would approach numerous restaurants in the Downtown New Port Richey area and ask them to create meal vouchers that we could print and provide to local public schools to distribute. As restaurant owners will tell you, they are used to being approached by non-profits looking for donations, so the first thing we had to make clear is this was not a request for them to donate, and that our program was also designed to support them. In fact, we we’re seeking a slight discount that still generated a profit for the restaurants, while also generating as many vouchers as possible to help children in the community. “The response was overwhelming,”...
