New Bedford Man Arrested Due to Social Media Posts - wbsm.com

NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police have arrested a city resident on firearms charges Monday following a tip from his social media posts.

Police said Gang Unit detectives learned that 20-year-old Brian Santiago of Collette Street was posting videos of himself on social media brandishing a firearm.

On Monday night, police said Santiago was seen riding as a passenger in a vehicle that was later stopped for motor vehicle offenses.

Santiago was searched and allegedly found to be in possession of a knife and a .380 handgun loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

He was arrested and charged with carrying a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number and possessing ammunition without a license.

According to police, Santiago has a previous conviction for firearm possession and was sentenced to one year in jail in 2019.
