The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office is investigating several threats of violence made against Cape Fear High School that circulated on social media Wednesday morning, a news release from the Sheriff's Office said.
The threats, reported to the sheriff's office at 7:44 a.m. Wednesday morning, allege that someone is going to commit a shooting at Cape Fear High School this week and warn students not to attend school, the release shows.
According to Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Lt. Patrice Bogertey, a number of threats were reported, but most of them contained obscene language and the threats released by the Sheriff's Office warn students about possible dangers.
"ATTENTION EVERYBODY THAT GOES TO CAPE FEAR HIGH SCHOOL," one post said. "DONT NOT GO TO SCHOOL THIS WEEK SB IS GOING TO SHOOT UP THE SCHOOL."
Another post referred to Cumberland County's most recent school shooting, which took place almost 10 years ago in 2011 at Cape Fear High School when a 15-year-old girl survived being shot in the neck.
"If you think this a joke ask the kids from 5 years ago when it happened to them at cape fear high school," the post said.
Bogertey said all threats of violence against schools, even those that turn out to be false or misinterpreted, are thoroughly investigated by law enforcement.
"We don't want to happen here what's happened other places," she said.
