Alex Murdaugh's legal team is 'casting a defense that doesn't exist,' lawyer for his former housekeeper says - Action News Now

The investigation into the killings of Alex Murdaugh's wife and son in June have prompted authorities to open other inquiries into at least two other deaths within the last several years -- most recently that of the family's housekeeper, Gloria Satterfield.
Now, Satterfield's sons are suing Murdaugh, who was arrested Thursday on fraud charges stemming from his attempt to have himself killed. (His wife's and son's deaths remain unsolved and Murdaugh has denied responsibility.)
An attorney for Satterfield's estate told CNN the family trusted Murdaugh to help them bring a wrongful death claim against him. The housekeeper died following what was described as a "trip and fall" accident at the Murdaugh home in 2018.
"Our clients had tremendous trust in Murdaugh. They viewed him as family," the attorney, Eric Bland told CNN's Erin Burnett Thursday.
But according to the family's lawsuit, despite a civil settlement, Satterfield's sons never received any money. On Thursday, Bland alleged Murdaugh had misappropriated millions in settlements from the Satterfield family.
"It's a disgrace, we're going to get to the bottom of it, and we have no sympathy or pity for Alex Murdaugh," Bland said.
CNN has reached out to attorneys for Murdaugh for comment.
On Wednesday, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division said it was opening a criminal probe into Satterfield's death.
