Camfil Canada’s Air Quality Experts Launch New Resource on Preventing VOC Health Damage

Toronto, Ontario — According to Health Canada, volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are compounds with a low boiling point (between 50 and 250 degrees celsius), meaning that they vapourize relatively easily. While VOCs can be naturally occurring and essential for natural processes such as contamination, man-made VOCs cause a wide range of damaging health effects, particularly when they are trapped indoors at high concentrations.

In a new educational resource, Camfil Canada’s air quality and air filtration experts share essential information on how to prevent health damage associated with VOCs.

“Canadians can reduce exposure to harmful VOCs by meeting label precautions, properly storing products, ensuring good air circulation, and not mixing products. Furthermore, it is important to minimize the use of scented products and to remove unnecessary products. When removing VOC-emitting products, ensure they are disposed of safely and contact local municipalities and relevant garbage disposal councils for instruction.”

Victor Rengel, Segment Leader for Molecular Contamination Control at Camfil Canada

The educational resource provides further information to answer the following questions:

  • What are VOCs?

  • Where do VOCs come from?

  • What are the health effects of VOCs?

  • How do you reduce VOCs indoors?

  • What air filters get rid of VOCs?
