Choosing to enhance your smile with veneers is more than just a cosmetic change; it's what renowned dentist Dr. Daniela Eversgerd refers to as a "smile makeover." This process can range from the placement of a single veneer to a complete overhaul involving a full mouth of veneers, each meticulously designed to restore confidence in one's smile.

According to Dr. Eversgerd, a smile makeover is not about vanity; it is a comprehensive investment in one's health, confidence, and overall satisfaction with their appearance. However, such a significant decision warrants thoughtful deliberation and Dr. Eversgerd shares some factors that need to be weighed before deciding to undergo a smile makeover.

For many of her patients, getting veneers signifies a vital transition point.

"The average patient gets eight veneers, although some opt for a full mouth, four, or even just one. Regardless of the number, it completely changes their confidence. When they have that mirror moment, they are blown away and cannot stop smiling," Dr. Eversgerd said.

However, there are several crucial points to consider before deciding to get veneers, says Dr. Eversgerd.

"Veneers are not cheap; it is an investment in yourself, your health, and your smile. Sometimes, your bite may be off, and we can correct that while reinforcing your teeth. Therefore, it's important to have a budget in mind. Veneers cost anywhere between 2-4K per tooth, depending on where you live. Make sure to explore financing options and be prepared to invest wisely," Dr. Eversgerd said.

She also noted the necessity of seeking out a qualified dentist.

"Make sure you are going to a dentist who knows what they are doing. There are so many patients I'm redoing because veneers weren't bonded properly or there were issues such as cavities getting underneath the veneers,” Dr. Eversgerd said. “It's critical that your dentist has a good relationship with the ceramist (the lab making the veneers). Understanding line angles, nuances, glazing, staining, and the types of ceramics we use to recreate nature requires years of training."

She mentioned that both online reviews and word-of-mouth are good ways to know if you are picking the right dentist.

"Read the reviews, go online, do your research,” Dr. Eversgerd said. “Word-of-mouth is a good way to know if a dentist is good from someone who has had veneers. It may be a dentist far away, but it's worth the trip if you are confident in their abilities."

Lastly, she emphasized the importance of having good dental hygiene before getting veneers, as well as maintaining it afterward.

"If you have not been to the dentist in a while, or if you have gum disease or crooked teeth, it's important to address these issues first,” Dr. Eversgerd said. “Once you get veneers, you can still get cavities. If your bite is wrong, they can break. You need to take care of your teeth after you get veneers."

Dr. Eversgerd's words underline the significance of veneers as an investment, one that demands careful consideration, professional expertise, and ongoing commitment to oral health.
