When most people think about a trip to the dentist, they likely don't associate it with comfort. However, Dr. Daniela Eversgerd is reshaping this narrative by transforming the typical dental visit into a unique sensory experience.
Drawing on her 15 years as a dental associate in various settings worldwide, Dr. Eversgerd has crafted an environment that engages all five senses, creating an atmosphere that's less clinical and more akin to a relaxing visit to a spa.
The foundation of Dr. Eversgerd's approach is care.
"The heart is the first element. The first thing I have to consider is ‘do my team and I genuinely care about our patients?’" she said.
Dr. Eversgerd ensures she hires women who are not only excellent at their jobs but also truly concerned about their patients' well-being.
She takes patient care even further by carefully considering all 5 senses from the perspective of her patients:
Smell: Recognizing that smell is connected to memory, Dr. Eversgerd had a company design a signature scent for her office.
"People often mention the distinct 'dentist office smell', which can trigger negative memories for patients," Dr. Eversgerd said.
To counter this, her office exudes the soothing aroma of white tea, providing a calming atmosphere from the moment patients walk in.
Touch: From the softest leather dental chairs to plush blankets and comfortable glasses, Dr. Eversgerd ensures that every tactile experience in her office is geared toward patient comfort.
Sight: The design of the office is intentionally calming and modern.
"Our waiting room looks more like a living room than a dental office. I even bought living room chairs for the waiting area,” she shared.
Taste: To further enhance the experience, Dr. Eversgerd offers her patients handmade Brazilian truffles, along with other cookies and treats.
Sound: Sound plays a crucial role in the dental experience, particularly in reducing anxiety.
"I invested in equipment that doesn’t make typical dental sounds, like high-pitched drilling noises," Dr. Eversgerd explained.
Additionally, she provides noise-canceling headphones for patients to watch Netflix or listen to music on monitors that rotate 360 degrees.
Beyond the sensory elements, Dr. Eversgerd prioritizes a personal connection with her patients, following up with them regularly and even giving out her cell phone number.
"I want my patients to know that my whole team and I are there for them," she said.
Dr. Eversgerd's sensory-driven approach, paired with a genuine care for her patients, truly redefines the dental experience at her office. It's a demonstration of her belief that dental care should not only be about treating teeth but also about engaging with patients in a holistic and caring way.
