How Women’s Group Therapy Is Making a Positive Impact on Mental Health

We come into the world as pure newborn infants, with a clear mind that is ready to learn and be imprinted by everything we will be taught or experience in our life’s journey. As we go through our lives, we experience an incredible range of emotions, encounters and events. We learn powerful lessons from what we have been through, and come across wonderful teachers who also educate us and increase the knowledge that we have. If we are fortunate we will also have some caring mentors who can guide us along the way.

Sometimes, though, we find ourselves going through really tough challenges in life. Our childhood and upbringing could be painful, and detrimental to our well-being and our mental health. We have times of great sorrow, after the loss of a loved one or a deeply cherished love relationship. For some, the intense stresses of life and the world can also leave them suffering and wondering how they can cope with it all. When we have gone through very painful times, or are struggling emotionally or mentally, we need to look for resources that can help us heal and feel better about life.

What is Group Therapy

As we seek to heal and grow in life, there are a number of different paths we can take. For some, self-reflection is beneficial. We might also seek guidance from a therapist, on a one-to-one basis. Women’s group therapy can also offer a wonderful alternative that can help us recognize deeper subconscious patterns in life, and embark on a journey of understanding and healing.

When you share a group therapy space with other women, you come together to create an environment that is supportive and safe. Led by a caring therapist, when comfortable you can share your stories, triumphs and struggles with others who may have similar life experiences.

The Healing Power of Realizing You Are Not Alone

So often in life, in the midst of our very painful struggles, we feel isolated from the world and deeply alone in our suffering. We struggle to cope and feel like we are alone in the ocean, barely treading water and near drowning.

Group therapy provides a life line when you feel alone in the ocean. It can help reduce the feelings of isolation and alienation from the world. As other members of the group share their experiences, you come to understand that there are others like you. This understanding, and the caring shown in the group, can be very healing.

Group Therapy Can Offer a Safety Net

Group therapy can help you develop and strengthen relationships. When they begin to develop trust in the group and share more openly, people start to find their voice. Being able to speak your truth in this world is very important to your mental well-being.

When you share and are received in a caring and honoring way, you also come to learn that it is okay to take risks. You become more empowered when you know the group is there for you.

Becoming part of a therapy group for women can be a very powerful experience in life. With the guidance of a trained therapist, you will come to discover that you are not alone and will be able claim your voice and become more comfortable opening to risk in life.
