Optimal indoor air quality is a crucial factor for the health, well-being, and productivity of guests and employees in commercial office buildings. Air filters are key in trapping dust, pollen, and other airborne particles that decrease indoor air quality, as well as for protecting the building’s sensitive HVAC equipment. To perform these functions effectively, air filters must be changed at the optimum time during their service-life with the exact frequency varying depending on the specific filter pollution levels in the building and the quality of the air filter itself.
Global air filtration manufacturer Camfil has launched a new resource in response to this need explaining how to determine a changeout schedule for commercial HVAC air filters.
“A common rule of thumb is, when the initial pressure drop has doubled, this is an indication that it’s time to consider a filter changeout in a commercial HVAC system,” says Camfil’s Manager of Marketing and Technical Materials, Mark Davidson, “Again, double the initial pressure drop is general rule but ideally, air filters should be changed at their optimum changeout point because once this point has been exceeded the high energy usage caused by airflow resistance will cost significantly more than labor and purchasing costs for changing the air filter.”
