New Guide on Volatile Organic Compounds by Camfil Indoor Air Quality Specialists is Online

New guide by Camfil answers top frequently asked questions about volatile organic compounds in commercial, residential, and healthcare settings.

Air quality specialists have launched a new guide explaining the impact of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), a common pollutant in many commercial, residential, and healthcare settings, on human health, the environment, and indoor air quality.

“A vast number of chemical compounds are VOCs but are not considered a significant threat to human health. However, of the 189 chemicals originally recognized by the EPA as air pollutants, 97 (that's a little over half) are VOCs,” explains Mark Davidson, Manager of Marketing and Technical Materials at Camfil. Camfil is a global producer of air filtration solutions for hospitals, factories, homes, schools, offices, and more.

Volatile organic compounds are a type of carbon-based molecule that evaporates rapidly at room temperature. Because VOCs are emitted by common everyday processes such as using cleaning fluids and printers, their impact in environments such as schools, offices, and healthcare facilities cannot be understated.

Health and Environmental Effects of VOCs

Camfil’s team of air quality experts explain the science behind VOCs and how they affect human health, exploring impact on long- and short-term physical health, in addition to cognitive function and productivity. The article goes on to explain the environmental impact of VOCs in 2024 and why it matters.

How to Reduce VOC Levels Indoors: Industry-Tested Tips from Air Filtration Specialists

The new comprehensive guide covers a broad range of strategies for reducing indoor VOC levels, from identifying and reducing VOC emissions at their source within your building to choosing the right kind of air filter to eliminate VOCs from indoor air and whether or not “natural” methods of combating VOCs (such as using indoor plants) are actually effective.
