Florida based company's tongue in cheek reference to New York aims to protect Florida's freedoms while welcoming newcomers to the state.

Ft. Lauderdale, FL – Don’t Big Apple My Orange billboards have started popping up in Miami, West Palm Beach, Tampa and other places across the state. The message to newcomers to the state, while humorous, is clear.

Don’t Big Apple My Orange’s website states it succinctly, “Welcome to the free state of Florida. All are welcome, but please, remember why you came. Check your politics at the border and enjoy Florida’s freedoms and sunshine”.

“The idea came to us during the COVID lockdown, states David Burgess, founder of the company. “We were discussing the huge influx of people coming to Florida to escape the restrictions in other states. There was concern that so many newcomers would change the state and not necessarily for the better. We didn't want the crime and other issues states like New York were experiencing.  My wife said, “Yeah, don’t big apple my orange” and the idea was born.”

In 2022, more people moved to Florida than any other state. With no state income tax, beautiful weather and a booming state economy, its easy to see why its so attractive. “We welcome anyone who wants to move here because we are proud of our state”, says Burgess. “We just don’t want to repeat the mistakes of the states they are leaving. We want to keep Florida Free.”

The company’s website sells t-shirts, hats and other merchandise with the company logo – an orange circle surrounding a bright red apple with Don’t Big Apple My Orange emblazoned on it.
