North Texas won’t be seeing relief from the summer heat soon.
Forecasts show Dallas-Fort Worth is on track to follow a typical August pattern: high temperatures — with the looming threat of triple-digit heat indexes — and plenty of humidity.
This week’s highs should linger in the upper 90s, and lows are likely to hover in the mid- to high-70s.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for the area Monday that should last through 8 p.m. Tuesday. Heat index values are expected to range from 105 to 110 degrees, raising the risk of heat-related illnesses.
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on relatives and neighbors,” the Weather Service said in its advisory.
KXAS-TV (NBC5) meteorologist Samantha Davies said in a Monday forecast that temperatures will feel like 106 degrees Monday and Tuesday, and 105 degrees Wednesday through Friday. There should be a slight breeze, with winds of about 10 to 20 mph.
“It’s the humidity that’s really going to make things feel hot,” she said.
The weekend is expected to bring back a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures, however, should stay just as high as the area settles into its usual August pattern.
