The Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday that two students are now in jail after making separate social media posts with threatening messages that alluded to gun violence.
“The safety of students and staff at its highest priority,” Charnae McDonald, Caddo Schools Director of Communications said. “As a result, any threat made is taken seriously and can result in an arrest, jail time and disciplinary action from the district.”
The two incidents were separate and isolated events said, McDonald. One occurred at Woodlawn Leadership Academy and the second took place at Southwood High School.
A 15-year-old Woodlawn student was arrested Tuesday morning after he posted a picture on Instagram placing a gun in a backpack and then another photo of himself walking onto campus with the backpack.
The student was intercepted by school officials upon arriving at Woodlawn. A search of the student's backpack revealed a loaded 9 mm handgun and an extended magazine.
“We are thankful for our school resource officers, district security, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office and all involved agencies for working together to intercept any possible criminal behavior,” McDonald said.
That student was booked into the Caddo Juvenile Detention Center for carrying a firearm on school property and for terrorizing.
In an unrelated incident, an 18-year-old Southwood student was arrested after posting a threatening message on Snapchat.
