University of Georgia gymnast Rachel Baumann and Georgia Tech quarterback Jordan Yates have become the first student-athletes to agree name, image and likeness deals with a Major League Baseball franchise by partnering with the Atlanta Braves.

Both athletes will be in attendance at Braves games at Truist Park and will work closely with the club's social media and marketing teams to chronicle their experiences.

On 7th July, following the recent change to the National Collegiate Athletic Association's policy on NIL deals, the Braves took to Instagram to invite student athletes to apply to partner with the team.

The Braves' own post received over 40,000 engagements, with Baumann and Yates ultimately being selected from approximately 500 applicants.

Meanwhile Yates, a Georgia native from Alpharetta, played three games last season as a back-up quarterback at Georgia Tech.

"As soon as the new NIL guidelines were set last month, we knew there was an opportunity to highlight the convergence of Braves Country and strong local athletes," said Greg Mize, senior director of marketing and innovation at the Atlanta Braves. "

The Braves are the latest professional US sports team to partner with college athletes.
