Garland County's infection curve traced a point Friday that was 34% lower than Wednesday's level, as the record 262 new cases reported Aug. 19 fell outside the rolling seven-day average Thursday.
Friday's moving average was the county's lowest since July 23 and 48% lower than the non-winter peak reached Aug. 12. Friday's active case count was 36% lower than the Aug. 14 peak, when Arkansas Department of Health statistics showed known active cases represented 1% of the county's population.
While the infection curve is abating, a corresponding drop in the cumulative infection rate has yet to develop. The county's total rate increased Friday and has been in double digits for more than a week. It reached 10% Aug. 19 and hasn't fallen since May.
According to Arkansas Center for Health Improvement statistics, new known cases represented at least 1% of the populations within the boundaries of two area school districts over a 14-day period that ended earlier this week, down from four school districts last week. The stats showed 120 new known infections per 10,000 residents in the Mountain Pine School District and 108 new known cases per 10,000 residents in the Cutter Morning Star School District.
Lake Hamilton, 99 new known cases per 10,000 residents, and Jessieville, 57 new known cases per 10,000 residents, fell below the 1% mark. New known per capita cases within the boundaries of Jessieville's district fell 43% compared to the 14-day period that ended last week.
