Last Update: 9:45 a.m. Monday, August 30, 2021 Watertown Police Department: Timothy J. Akin, 55, of 589 W. Prospect St., Apt. 2, Watertown, was charged by Watertown police at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, at 589 W. Prospect St. with fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor, and second-degree harassment. Mr. Akin is accused of kicking Elaine L. Covey, 29, in her left thigh, grabbed a cell phone from her, and threw it to the ground in an attempt to prevent from making an emergency call about 1:00 p.m. Sunday at 589 W. Prospect St., Apt. 1, according to court documents. He was additionally charged with second-degree strangulation, a felony, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, a misdemeanor and a single count of second-degree harassment. Mr. Akin allegedly placed both of his hands around the neck of Sharlene M. Teeter, 57, and applied pressure causing her to lose the ability to breath which made her light-headed and dizzy at about 1:00 p.m. Sunday at 589 W. Prospect St., Apt. 1, according to court documents. He also allegedly spit in her face, grabbed a necklace valued at $175 from her neck causing it to break and damaged her cell phone valued at $190 by throwing it against the ground causing the screen to break during the domestic incident, police said. He was being held at the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building pending arraignment in City Court. Sharon K.
