A July 22 article on BR Proud reports on a fatal collision that occurred between an SUV and a motorcycle on South Sherwood Forest Boulevard and Auburn Drive. The exact circumstances of the accident are reportedly still under investigation, though it appears that the south-bound SUV was in the process of making a left turn when the north-bound motorcycle slammed into the SUV’s rear passenger door. The motorcyclist was taken to the hospital where they later died of their injuries. Baton Rouge-based personal injury attorney office Russell Law Firm LLC says the accident underscores both the dangers of motorcycle collisions and the need for increased caution when driving at night.
The Russell Law Firm says that outside of the gear they wear and their own skills, motorcyclists have virtually no protection against other vehicles on the road. What might be described as a light fender bender between two ordinary cars is generally catastrophic for motorcycles. The firm notes that even a midsize sedan, which still weighs between 4,500 and 5,500 pounds on average, carries enough physical force to destroy a colliding motorcycle. Riders, again, have little to no protection and are purely at the mercy of these forces, it adds.
