The US National Hurricane Centre (NHC) is monitoring newly formed Tropical Depression Twelve. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
At 5 pm AST, the centre of Tropical Depression Twelve was located over the far eastern Atlantic Ocean about 335 miles (535 km) southeast of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands.
The depression is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 miles per hour (26 km/h). A turn toward the west is expected tonight, and a westward motion at a faster forward speed is expected during the next couple of days.
Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is expected to take place during the next couple of days and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight or on Wednesday.
When that occurs, it will be named "Larry".
Meanwhile, the NHC in an update on Kate said there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
At 5 pm AST, the centre of Tropical Depression Kate was located over the Atlantic Ocean about 875 miles (1405 km) northeast of the Leeward Islands. The depression is moving toward the north near 7 miles per hour (11 km/h).
A north-northwestward motion is forecast to begin tonight and continue through early Thursday, followed by a turn toward the north on Thursday night and Friday.
Maximum sustained winds remain near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. Little change in strength is forecast to occur during the next few days.
