Saginaw County man gets up to 25 years in prison for repeatedly sexually abusing young boy - mlive.com

SAGINAW, MI — A James Township man is heading to prison for more than a decade for sexually abusing a young boy over several years.
Saginaw County Circuit Judge Manvel Trice III on Wednesday, Sept. 1, sentenced Joshua M. Worley to 15 to 25 years in prison. Trice gave Worley credit for 556 days already served in the county jail.
Worley will also have to register as a sex offender, with Trice ordering he be placed on electronic monitoring for the rest of his life once he’s served his prison time.
Worley turns 32 on Sept. 17, by which time he’ll likely have been received by the Michigan Department of Corrections.
He pleaded no contest in June on one count of first-degree criminal sexual conduct causing personal injury. The charge involves penetration and is a life offense.
In exchange for Worley’s pleas, prosecutors dismissed three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim younger than 13. A conviction of that charge would require a 25-year minimum prison sentence.
Worley pleaded no contest rather than guilty for reasons of civil liability, said defense attorney Kelly D. Ellsworth. By pleading as such, Worley did not orally admit to having committed a crime.
Trice relied on a police report to enter a conviction on the record. According to the report, Trice said that Worley between Jan. 1, 2016, and Dec. 27, 2019, sexually abused a minor male at Worley’s James Township residence.
