Ridgeland, MS (September 3, 2021) – There were multiple injuries after a convoy of Mississippi national guardsmen were involved in a multiple-vehicle crash in the Ridgeland area on Thursday, September 2.
The accident took place on Interstate 5 near the interchange with I-220. Local reports revealed that a civilian ran into the path of the convoy. The driver of the leading vehicle had to abruptly hit the brakes.
This ended in a total of six military vehicles crashing into each other. The civilian driver reportedly fled the scene. Ten soldiers with the 223rd Engineer Batallion were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The convoy was reportedly en route to Louisiana to assist those impacted by Hurricane Ida. The area was closed for roughly three hours while the site was cleared.
An ongoing crash investigation is being managed by local officials.
