While the result was not necessarily unexpected – Atascocita was the higher-ranked team and has plenty of talent – it was historically significant.
The loss for Allen snapped a 122-game home winning streak, which predated the construction of the $60 million, 18,000-seat Eagle Stadium. It also ended an 84-game regular season winning streak for the program.
Greg Tepper, the managing editor at Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, noted some specific dates.
Allen had the longest active regular-season winning streak in the state before the loss. But that wasn’t the only streak that ended Friday, Tepper pointed out.
Denton Ryan, the No. 1 team in Class 5A Division I, suffered a 14-7 loss against Denton Guyer.
As Houston Chronicle reporter Marcus Gutierrez noted, the Atascocita players and coaches certainly realized the gravity of what they accomplished. The Eagles avenged a 52-27 loss against Allen last season.

Atascocita was led by quarterback Gavin Session and receiver Chase Sowell, both seniors. Session completed 16 of 28 passes for 300 yards and four touchdowns. He also collected 117 yards and a score on the ground.
Sowell had seven catches for 182 yards and four touchdowns.
Senior Tyras Winfield, who finished with 154 total yards (88 rushing, 66 receiving) and a touchdown, put up some nice video game numbers. That’s fitting since he is apparently the No. 1 Madden player at the school as well.
