Cayman needs more than 5K to be vaccinated to open on October 14 | Loop Cayman Islands - Loop News Cayman

There are still 5,082 people that need to get their first jab in order to meet government’s vaccination mandate of 80 per cent of the population in order for borders to open. There are 8,939 people who are yet to complete the two-dose vaccine sequence in order to meet this target.

Cayman has now administered at least one jab of the Pfizer vaccine to 73 per cent of the population of 71,106 people. The country is still striving to obtain an 80 per cent vaccination rate, which is the equivalent of 56,885 vaccinated people.

This means that the country effectively has less than a month and a half to vaccinate more than five thousand people. In order to achieve this, 124 people would have to be vaccinated each day, on average.

With a total of 101,466 COVID-19 vaccinations administered in the Cayman Islands to date, there are 51,803 people who have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 47,946 (67 per cent) who have completed the two-dose course.

Since January 7, when Cayman first started inoculating local residents, the country has averaged 217 vaccines administered per day. This average has dropped over the past few months as many of those who have been sceptical about the vaccine have continued to remain hesitant despite the pleas of government.

Between September 1 and September 3, 260 vaccines were administered. Only 85 of these were first-time shots. This is an average of 22-23 first time shots per day—more than 100 less than the required daily average.
