‘Unreal’ defensive effort has social media buzzing about Georgia football - DawgNation

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Georgia offense was far from great against Clemson. It scored just three points and threw for only 135 yards.

And yet most of the post-game chatter wasn’t about the group’s struggles in yet another big game.

That’s how dominant the Georgia defense was in the 10-3 win over the No. 3 Tigers.

The Georgia defense left Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei flustered all night. He was sacked seven times and under constant siege thanks to Georgia’s defensive front.

A thin secondary also made the play of the game when Chris Smith intercepted a Uiagalelei pass. Smith returned the interception 74-yards for what proved to be the game’s only touchdown.

“We put in countless, countless hours of working through plays and disguises so we could execute the game plan to the best of our abilities,” Smith said. “That’s what ultimately paid off in the end.”

From there, the Georgia defense suffocated Clemson. The Tigers finished with just two rushing yards on the night. Uiagalelei completed 19 of his 37 pass attempts for 178 yards and an interception. It was by far the worst game of his young career.

“I didn’t play very good today, and everyone could see that and it showed,” Uiagalelei told reporters. “It’s on me. I didn’t think I played very good. I didn’t play good at all. I didn’t think I played good enough to win the ball game.”

While some may want to blame Clemson’s offensive line, make no mistake about it. The Georgia defense, at all three levels, made life miserable...
