Breaking: Cayman records a whopping 24 positive COVID cases | Loop Cayman Islands - Loop News Cayman

In the single largest recording of positive COVID-19 cases since the onset of the pandemic, Chief Medical Officer, Dr. John Lee, reports that there were 24 positive test results in travellers and one in a person quarantining with a traveller. This is out of 784 tests that were carried out since Friday September 3.

There have now been 715 positive cases recorded in the Cayman Islands since the onset of the pandemic. Thirty five of these are active cases and 14 are symptomatic.

Underscoring the effectiveness that the Cayman Islands quarantine protocols have demonstrated to date, health officials noted that the 24 persons included 11 family groups and three single member households. Fifteen individuals were unvaccinated against COVID-19 and nine individuals were vaccinated.

Premier Wayne Panton affirmed that, as the Cayman Islands moves to reopen its borders, “based on everything we see happening internationally we know there will be an increased risk of COVID-19 transmission in the community.”

The Premier went on to say:

“The high number of positive test results today, reinforces why it is so important that we get the vaccine and encourage our loved ones to do the same. While it is still possible to contract COVID-19 if you are vaccinated, the vaccine is our best defense against severe illness and death.”
