Guyana Amazon Warriors opening batsman Chandrapaul Hemraj says a pre-tournament fitness drive has played a big part in the revival of his game in the 2021 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
The 28-year-old left-hander had a middling 2020 CPL, scoring only 140 runs in eight innings and taking only one wicket.
Hemraj had a brilliant 2019 season, scoring 299 runs in 12 innings and taking five wickets in the Amazon Warriors' run to the finals.
He has recovered his form in the current season, scoring 178 runs in six innings at a brilliant average of 35.60.
Hemraj, who scored his first T20 hundred (105 not out) for the Amazon Warriors on Saturday, attributed the turnaround to improved fitness.
"I am happy to play some cricket coming into this tournament. I must thank my trainer for working me for the past three, four weeks before coming into the tournament," he said.
"Definitely, it has helped my confidence. I feel much stronger, much fitter. I got the endurance to bat longer," Hemraj added.
Hemraj, who has represented the West Indies in six ODIs, thanked those who have supported him, including his batting partner on Saturday, Shoaib Malik.
