'Kids were getting trampled': video on social media shows chaotic scene at USC game - WACH.com

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WACH) -- Video circulating on social media shows hundreds of Gamecocks fans packing into the Williams-Brice stadium Saturday for the first game of the season. Some people who were there tell WACH FOX News that it was a dangerous situation and several people were injured. Now, they're calling for better organization and safety protocols at the games as Coronavirus cases in the state continue to quickly rise.

“Kids were getting trampled. If you fell in there, you could get seriously injured and I know some people did," said Jake Anderson who is a senior at the University of South Carolina.

Anderson said the chaotic scene happened at the student entrance gate at the stadium.

“You can hear people screaming and screaming for help," said Anderson.

The incident comes as Coronavirus cases in the state continue to skyrocket. Since the pandemic started , there have been more than 600,000 confirmed cases in the state. As of Friday, 31 people died from the virus on that day alone. In the videos, you can see hundreds of people not wearing masks or social distancing.

“This was like as bad as you could have it. You couldn’t even move around," said Anderson.

Some of those students are blaming the University of South Carolina’s staff for the incident, saying the situation was dangerous and unacceptable. Other students said on Twitter that several people were injured. They say staff should have prepared for the influx of students.
