A student admitted to posting a non-credible threat of violence at Ethan A. Chase Middle School in Menifee on Tuesday, Sept. 7, police said.
Menifee police started investigating the threat after a Romoland School District employee notified the department at around 7 p.m. Monday, officials said. Investigators were able to track down four students who spread the threats on social media and worked with them, police said, along with their parents through the night.
During the investigation, one of the four students admitted to posting the threat and it was deemed not credible, police said.
It wasn’t yet clear if the student would face criminal charges for the threat. Once the investigation by police was complete, officials said, detectives would present the case to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office for review.
Even if threats on social media are posted as jokes, every threat is taken seriously and there is still a likelihood of criminal charges being pursued, police said.
