New Bedford Man Arrested After Flashing Gun on Social Media - wbsm.com

NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford man has been arrested after police say he flashed a firearm on social media.

According to New Bedford Police, Sterling Robinson, 22, of New Bedford was observed on Wednesday, September 8 at about 1 p.m. by Gang and Narcotics Unit detectives assigned to the Organized Crime Intelligence Bureau.

Police say Robinson had been seen displaying a firearm on social media posts, and had been recording while driving through rival gang territory.

Robinson was stopped for motor vehicle violations, and police say a search of his vehicle turned up a 9mm Smith & Wesson pistol loaded with eight rounds of ammunition hidden in an area behind the glove compartment. According to police, the pistol was stolen out of New Bedford. Approximately one pound of marijuana and $137 in cash was also seized.

Robinson was arrested on a variety of charges including firearm and ammunition possession, receiving stolen property, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and motor vehicle offenses. Police say he has numerous open cases out of New Bedford district court including carrying a dangerous weapon, resisting arrest, assault and battery on a police officer, and unarmed robbery.
