The preliminary stage of the 2021 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CL) comes to a thrilling close this weekend.

All six teams will play on both days, with three matches being played on each day, the first time as many matches have been played on a matchday in the CPL.

Which teams will go through and which ones will go home?

All six teams have played eight matches and, as it stands, five have a realistic chance of making it to the semifinals.

Trinbago Knight Riders

The defending champions, the Trinbago Knight Riders, are back at the top of the table on 10 points.

They lead St Kitts and Nevis Patriots on Net Run Rate (1.037 to -0.619).

The Knight Riders, who lost head coach Brendon McCullum before the tournament, made an indifferent start, losing three of their first five matches.

However, since their Super Over loss to the Amazon Warriors on 1 September, Imran Jan's team has beaten the Jamaica Tallawahs twice, and the Barbados Royals.

With three wins on the trot, the Knight Riders are high in confidence and will be tough to dislodge from a semifinal berth.

However, they must get past a talented and wounded St Kitts and Nevis Patriots team this weekend.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots

The Patriots took the 2021 CPL by storm rattling off five straight wins before losing twice to the St Lucia Kings last weekend.

The hosts then lost to the Jamaica Tallawahs by 22 runs to lose three straight matches and allow the Knight Riders to slip past them and claim first place in the table.
