Comedian says in social media rant he won’t perform in venues with COVID rules, including N.J. show - NJ.com

Comedian and former Saturday Night Live cast member Jim Breuer is protesting venue proof of vaccination policies by refusing to perform upcoming dates, including a Dec. 3 show scheduled at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair.

Breuer, who has a home in Chester, made the announcement during a 22-minute Facebook Live broadcast on Sept. 10, where he called out the entertainment industry for what he called “segregation” by requiring patrons show proof they received a COVID-19 vaccination to be admitted. “The Wellmount....I’m not doing it. I’m not apologizing. I will not do a show where… the only way to do that is get a shot or prove you have. Until that changes, I will not perform,” Breuer said in his Facebook live. “This is full blown segregation.”

Breuer also said he’s canceling a show at the Royal Oak theater in Michigan and he called out the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown, although he does not have a show scheduled there. He last played there in October 2017, according to the Mayo website.

Breuer spread some of the blame for proof of vaccination requirements on larger concert promoters, naming Live Nation and governors of individual states specifically.

“They’re holding them hostage and enforcing and telling these venue they have to do it, others, it’s the governors,” Breuer said. “I will play backyards and I will play venues not run by a monopoly forcing venues to do it.”
