If you own a stash of obscene publications which is defined as “writings, drawings, prints, paintings, printed matter, pictures, posters, emblems, photographs, cinematograph films, discs, tapes or other obscene objects or any other object tending to corrupt morals” and live in the Cayman Islands, you could end up in jail.

Under the Penal Code of the Cayman Islands, if an individual is in possession of an obscene publication, you will be committing an offence and be liable to a fine of two hundred dollars and to imprisonment for three months.

Possession is also a complex matter, which may only require your knowledge and consent to the item being used among a group of people, whether or not it is for the use or benefit of oneself or any other person.

Here are some of the offences associated with obscene publications.

An offence will arise where:

  • There is distribution or public exhibition, or an individual makes, produces or has in his possession any one or more obscene writings, drawings, prints, paintings, printed matter, pictures, posters, emblems, photographs, cinematograph films, discs, tapes or other obscene objects or any other object tending to corrupt morals

  • An individual imports, conveys or exports, or is involved with such activity or puts the materials in circulation through any form of distribution, including lending

  • An individual advertises such materials

  • An individual publicly exhibits any indecent show or performance or any show or performance...
