Avery Zweig, who has produced a career's worth of golf highlights in the past nine months, added another this week when she was selected to the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team.
Unfortunately for Zweig, 14, of McKinney, and the rest of the U.S. team, the matches were canceled because of ongoing travel issues for the European Junior Ryder Cup team. On Sept. 1-2, she played in the Ping Junior Solheim Cup in Sylvania, Ohio, and won two of her three matches.
Zweig, a freshman at Spring Creek Academy, is the youngest member of the coed Junior Ryder Cup team.
Sooners edge Texas for Maridoe team title: Oklahoma's Chris Gotterup made a par on the final hole to give Oklahoma a one-shot victory over Texas in the 15-team Maridoe Invitational on Wednesday. Adrienne Ahn shot a 3-under 69 in the second round to overcome a five-shot deficit and win the girls division of the Legends Junior Tour's North Texas Classic at Tangle Ridge Golf Course by five shots over McKinney's Kate Bennett and Tyler's Sidney Robertson. Plano's Rhett O'Rear won the boys 14 and under division, and Austin's Sam Dossey won the boys division.
