LINCOLN, Neb. — Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) is taking extra precautions after two high schools received social media threats Thursday.
In letters sent to parents – a copy of which was provided to NTV News by LPS – the district said that at the end of the day, a student reported to staff at Lincoln Northeast High School that students were threatening violence at the school on social media.
LPS said it contacted Lincoln Police and its security team who contacted the students and their families.
LPS said Lincoln North Star High School said it received reports of a photo being circulated via Snapchat with language that mentioned the school and violence. The district said it is an old photo without a specific date that “is making the rounds again.”
The Lincoln Police Department (LPD) told NTV News via email that through its investigations, it found no substantiated threats at this time.
Out of an abundance of caution, LPS said it planned to have additional security and police at Lincoln Northeast.
The district said Lincoln North Star staff will continue to work with LPS security and LPD to “ensure a safe environment for everyone” and investigate all reports of violence on social media.
LPS encouraged anyone to report any threats to school administrators, LPD at 402-441-6000 and/or LPS security through the green Safe to Say button on its website.
