No lockdown required; reopening this year might be reconsidered | Loop Cayman Islands - Loop News Cayman

Having tested thousands of people over the past few days, Cayman Islands Government officials are of the opinion that the COVID out breaks that have occurred within the community over the past two weeks are under control.

At a press briefing today, Friday September 17, Premier Wayne Panton advised that recent decisions that were made were in response to the outbreak at George Town Primary School that affected 17 children. He further advised that the health of the country's children, particularly those who cannot get vaccinated by virtue of their age, is protected.

He also informed the country that he does not yet have a date yet for phase 4 of reopening but it will not be happening on October 14 as previously planned. That said, the government is prepared to be flexible when "the country is in the best possible place... and we in government are convinced we can do it safely."

Contrary to rumors, the country will not be moving backwards with respect to its reopening plans and will remain at stage 3 of border reopening which began on September 9, for the time being.

"There is no lock down required at this time," advised the Premier, reassuring the country not only that there was no need for panic but that there was no need to implement major restrictions within the community.

While there will not be lock down or shelter in place measures, the following regulations are in place, some of which will be gazzetted by the end of the day:
