SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS/WRSP) — It's been a week of controversy under the state dome, after the man nominated to be the next treasurer inspector general withdrew his nomination over social media posts.
Dennis Rendleman was slated to take over the watchdog position for the state treasurer's office. Now state lawmakers wondering why posts that compare Christian nationalists to terrorists and which compare Trump supporters to the KKK, weren't brought to light sooner.
"I just couldn't believe that he would have the audacity to post all of this stuff on social media, I mean, what, I don't understand why he would do that," said Republican Illinois State Senator Steve McClure during.
The man meant to be the ethical standard for the treasurer's office now having his ethics called in to question. Other posts found on Rendelman's Facebook page before it was taken down compared Texas to the Middle East. Another saying "more evidence the right wing kills" as a comment on a Washington Post article about media misinformation about the pandemic.
"I still can't believe that mister Rendleman made those posts knowing that he was needing to be confirmed by republicans and democrats," said Senator McClure.
